On 09 November, 2016, The Ambassador of France to Canada presented the Legion of Honour to a number of Canadian Veterans on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy and Provence. Noble Eric Smith, a member of the Tunis Legion of Honour Unit, was one of the recipients of this honour in recognition of the more than 10 Combat Missions he made during the landings. The Legion of Honour, full name National Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest French order for military and civil merits and was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Noble Eric is also a holder of the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) which was awarded by Canada for service during WW 2 and Korea.
